The 2013 Tire Rack One Lap of America presented by Grassroots Motorsports Magazine completed it’s third day of competition today. After running on and setting a street tire record at the small track in Taladega, Alabama and being rained out from our second event yesterday the One Lappers welcomed the beautiful weather at NOLA Motorsport Park.
Since this. Is a new track and no one from the One Lap had run there before we were all curious to see what was in store. There were no disappointments. Utilizing state of the art construction techniques this Alan Wilson designed track almost floats above the swampland it is built atop of. The picturesque, smooth track surface and pristine facilities are sandwiched between lush tree lines and surrounded by a bustling community. The track itself is a blend of fast straights, tight technical sections, quick sweepers and a series of S corners that bring plenty of smiles. This track has something for everybody.
In another display of driving excellence and a stellar build the TopSpeed GTR piloted by Leh Keen took first place in both sessions by handily outpacing the competition by a full 10 seconds. The Dodge Viper of Steve Loudin and Tom Drewer placed a consistent second place with the third position being rounded out by the Nissan GTR of Michael Lattos and Eric Van Cleef.
Tonight the competitors face their longest trip of the event with a haul to Daytona, Florida to tackle the Daytona raceway in the morning. Tomorrow should be a day with our vehicles reaching speeds close to 200 mph on street tires. If you are in the area I highly recommend stopping by to watch some world class displays of racing.
Hope to see you on the road.
